Very strong/builders tea

The term "builders tea" originates from the tradition of builders taking a break during their day and enjoying a cup of tea. The tea was typically made stronger by brewing the tea for longer than usual which would result in a stronger final cup. Builders’ tea is often enjoyed with milk and sugar due to the stronger taste and also by adding sugar, it could provide an energy boost that the builders would need. While builders’ tea has its origins in the construction industry, it is now commonly used a descriptive term for the strength of tea someone may enjoy. If you ask for a builders’ tea, more often than not people will understand this means you’d like a very strong cup!

While tea, as a general rule is good for you, very strong tea may not be as much. Tea does contain antioxidants which are beneficial for health, however, consuming large amounts of tea, which contains caffeine, can have a negative impact on health. Caffiene, is of course, a stimulant which in turn can trigger some of the following things such as sleep disruption. Tea also has diuretic properties which can lead to dehydration. As a general rule, a strong tea is not going to cause major health implications, however, it is important to consume everything in moderation. Decaffeinated tea is a great alternative for those who want to have a strong cup of tea (steep for longer or increase the amount of tea) whilst not having higher volumes of caffeine than usual.

Obviously, any cup of tea start with boiling water in a kettle or on a stove. Whilst, the water is heating, select your best cup and place your teabag (possibly 2) or loose tea ready for when the water is boiled. Pour over the steaming water and allow the tea to infuse for up to 5 minutes – the longer the better when brewing a Builders’ tea. Once the time has passed, extract the tea and add milk, sugar or both to suit your taste whilst stirring gently. Next, enjoy!
